|Ellsworth Forrester (M & G 1, 2, 3 & 4) the man and his music.
I was born on the Caribbean Island of Grenada in the village of Birch-Grove, which is in the parish of St. Andrews. Grenada is the Spice Island of the Caribbean. As a little boy growing up I always wanted to be a musician, I wanted to sing or play an instrument I loved the guitar and tenor sax, as a kid it seemed almost impossible to achieve the dream of becoming a musician; there were no music schools to attend; and buying an instrument was not possible at the time.
Looking back, I realize the power of the human mind that we are the
Product of our expectations, that which we love and quietly hold in our mind and think about most of the time becomes physical reality. The Gods provides the means and the way, plant the seed and continue to believe that you can, even when the going gets rough. Eventually I became a member of the neighborhood band named “Rhythm Riders” my dream became a reality when I joined the group.
I started out playing the cowbell and other percussion instruments, I also had access to the other instruments; I was interested in the guitar, which I started learning to play. The guitar player migrated to the United States; the group needed to fill the spot, and that presented a wonderful opportunity for me. I started playing the guitar; eventually the band invested in an electric organ but was unsuccessful finding some one to play it, which was another wonderful opportunity for me. I became the keyboard player and the keyboard became my favorite instrument. However, I eventually migrated to the USA. Where I still reside I continued to play music with Caribbean and American groups, while playing with the different groups I assisted with writing and arranging, I always had a passion for writing. I played with a group called “South Road Connection,” we did one album for Mahogany Records, and then we were signed to United Artist Records for which we did two albums. After years of struggle the group broke up, I continue to write and thanks to technology, I was able to set up my own studio and continued recording my compositions. I have done four CD’s Moods & Grooves 1, 2, 3, and 4.
