Frances Mirjah known as DoDo and Auntie Doodes departed this life June 21, 2011 from a short illness. DoDo was born Jan 5, 1931 in St. Patrick Grenada to the late Evelyn and George James. There she married Gilbert Mirjah and raised 10 children of which 3 died, Neal, Evelyn aka Louise, and Gilbert aka DJ Charlie.
Around 1976 she made a bold move and went to live and work in Venezuela to create a better life for herself and her family, there she learned to speak Spanish, master the local cuisine and of course some great dance moves. DoDo had a knack and talent for quickly picking up and cooking dishes from any nationality for those she worked for, a skill she proudly carried over to the US.
DoDo immigrated to the US, Brooklyn NY in 1979 where she continued to work hard as a nursing aide to support her children. She was very kind-hearted and loving. She was very family oriented, travelled frequently to Grenada, Trinidad and England to visit family and friends. She was strong, independent, a socialite and a true friend. DoDo spoke her mind, told it like it was and didn’t mince her words or as she would say “Give you the business”. DoDo was fun to be around, friendly, hospitable, and always had the best jokes, you could not be sad around her for long.
DoDo is survived through her 7 children: Dennot Sr. aka Kathy, Glen aka Saroup, Franklin aka Gandhi, Andre aka Ball and Dance, Peter aka Slow in USA, Telpha aka Wire in UK and Margaret aka Sister/Yolande in Grenada. Her 29 grandchildren: Dennot Jr, Tene, DeRell, Devon, Rina, Teddy, Glenda, Mikey, Eldon, Odida, Karina, Jasmine, Dwade, Dean in the US; Stacey, Kurt, Leslie, Lynell, Alexander, Alexandra in the UK and Clint, Thaddeus, Ebernie, Kimon, Corrine, Eberna, Moiese, Rackell, Telisha in Grenada. She also leaves to mourn 14 great grandchildren in the USA and the UK and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends around the world.
Here’s to you DoDo, “one for the road!” as you would say. We love you and miss you!
