Details:

Cecilia Evadney Julien Vincent of Grenville, St. Andrew’s passed away peacefully on Ascension Thursday May 21, 2020 at St. Martin’s Home for the Aged, St. Andrew, Grenada. She was 93 years old.

Affectionately referred to as “Evadney” or “Mrs. Bouge,” Mrs. Vincent was born on April 3, 1927 (reg. May 25 1927) to the late Mr. Gregory Wilson Julien and Mary Augustine. She was the eldest of their seven children: Anthony Julien, Baldwin Julien, Theresa Julien Frederick, Reginald Julien, Joyce Julien and Rita Julien.

She married Mr. Hyacinth Vincent “Mr. Bouge” on October 10, 1948 and together they raised two daughters, Taecha S. Vincent Lorick and Valerie S. Vincent Steele. Mrs. Vincent was a generous mother and dutiful sister, aunt and friend who believed education is key to life. She also helped raise and educate her nieces Joan, Thelma and Yvonne Frederick, nephew Leroy Julien as well as supported Joan Vincent Christopher, Selma Vincent, the Blaize children and many other family members whom she opened her home and heart.

Several years after the death of her late husband, Mrs. Vincent immigrated to the United States in 1979 and lived in Brooklyn, New York to be close to her daughters, two grand-daughters, Yndia S. Lorick-Wilmot and Alana Dominque Steele, and scores of relatives. Mrs. Vincent was employed as a nurse’s aide for many decades with the goal of securing financial independence before permanently retiring to her beloved home country, Grenada, in 2007.

A deeply religious woman and staunch Catholic, Mrs. Vincent regularly attended and was an active member of her church communities: St. Matthew Parish (Crown Heights, Bklyn), Queen of All Saints Parish (Clinton Hill, Bklyn) and St. Andrew the Apostle (Grenada). Mrs. Vincent made it her duty to ensure family and friends attended mass regularly and observed the Lord’s Day.

Mrs. Vincent will be remembered for her love for laughter and enthusiasm for telling stories, big personality that would light up any room, kind and generous spirit, and fashion sense. As a woman who loved to dress stylishly with large and beautiful hats to church, Mrs. Vincent was also known as a fantastic cook. She enjoyed creating delicious meals and treats such as ice cream, guava cheese and coconut tarts, which were often requested by friends and fellow parishioners for church Harvest. Also, she enjoyed entertaining friends and family, singing various church hymns, and dancing to her favorite country music singer, Jim Reeves. In fact, Mrs. Vincent’s love for music inspired her desire to learn to play the piano, a skilled she developed later in life at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music (Park Slope, Bklyn). Her favorite song to play was “Amazing Grace.”

Mrs. Cecilia Evadney Julien Vincent is survived by her two daughters Taecha Vincent Lorick and son-in laws, Ralph Belton and Curives Lorick, Valerie Vincent Steele and son-in law, Paul Steele, two grand-daughters Yndia Lorick-Wilmot and son-in law, Damian Wilmot, and Alana Steele, and three great-grandchildren Justin JL Wilmot, Sydney Noel Wilmot, and Nyle Paul Steele, her brother Anthony Julien, sister-in law to Sheila Julien (Baldwin Julien), Margaret Vincent De Belotte, and Byron Joefield (Theresa Julien), and scores of nieces and nephews, including Joan Frederick Cox, Thelma Frederick, Benedict Frederick, Yvonne Frederick, Hilderine La Crette (deceased), Devon Julien (Reginald Julien), Glenda Julien Vincent, Glenroy Julien, Kentford Julien, Leroy Julien, Neesha Julien and several others who live in Trinidad and New York (Anthony Julien).

Other surviving relatives and close family friends include cousin and caretaker Sherry-Ann Belfon, the families of Julien, Vincent, Ashby, Redhead, Phillips, Bain, Noel, Christopher and Augustine, as well as those located in Trinidad, Aruba, Venezuela, the United States, England and Canada.

Special thanks to Dr. Keith Johnson, Ms. Valerie Calliste Horsford, Matron Ms. Phillips-Smith and staff at St. Martin’s Home for the Aged in Grenville, the Priest and parishioners of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, friends and neighbors of Cookhill Road, Grenville and surrounding areas.

Special Info  In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, a private service will be held at Grand Bras Cemetery, presided by St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church and facilitated by La Qua Brothers Funeral Agency on Thursday, May 28 2020 at 11:00 AM ET.
