Special Info  Gentle Ambrose Alexis was born in Florida, St. John's, Grenada. He was the son of Nerissa Joseph nee Hackshaw and Marcus George Alexis, both deceased. Gentle was born on November 6th, 1945 and as his name implies, he was gentle and mild mannered. As a young man in Grenada, he had a love for children and education. This passion lead him to his first profession as a teacher at St. John's Roman Catholic school in Gouyave, Grenada. Among other qualities, he was admired for his elegant attire that graced the school and all those who came in contact with him. Striving to further his education as well as to improve himself and his relatives financially, he migrated to New York in 1970. His love for healthcare and caring for others landed him jobs at various health facilities in New York, such as Lutheran hospital and Montefiore Health Network. He also worked at Rikers Island Prison System from which he retired honorably in 2010. Gentle is survived by his wife Celia, his daughter Bianca and his step-son Marvin. He was the brother of Nugent Hackshaw, Irvin, Dickey, Irma and Celia in England; Carnice Modeste and Eyvette Alexis in New York; Sheila Banfield and Joan Alexis in Canada; Barry Alexis and Cletus Pascal in Grenada and Cynthia LaTouche in Ireland. He was the brother-in-law of Philip Modeste and Anslem LaTouche in Grenada and Pickman Banfield in Canada. Gentle was the uncle of many nieces and nephews including: Casandra, Lewanda, Samantha, Acadia and Keith in New York; Austin Alexis, Glena Eastman, Sonia Cadet and Marian Davidson-Langaigne in Grenada; Glenna, Debra, Jason and Brendan in England; Michelle, Sasha, Kim, Marcia, Gregory and Michael in Canada and Nadia LaTouche in Ireland. He was the adopted uncle of Dr. Roland Glean in Illinois; grand uncle of Tara Eastman-Charles in Grenada, Gizelle Eastman in St. Petersburg, Florida and Nevaeh George in New York; uncle-in-law of Allan George in New York and grand nephew of Margaret Hackshaw. Several relatives, neighbors and friends including: The Elahie family of Victoria, Jean Bowen, Mavis Dhannie, Louie Alphonse, Carmen John, Norma Wade and Maudlyn Ferguson in Grenada; Alma James in Barbados; Tony Julien (aka Tone Tone), Morril Alexis, Ashley, Quacy (aka Que) and his wife Natoya, Shaka, Eddie, St. Joe, the Domino Boys and countless others in New York, Canada, UK and Grenada too numerous to mention. Gentle lived a very wholesome life; he successfully achieved his dreams and he touched the lives of many. He died peacefully after having a hearty breakfast and pleasant conversations with the nurses and doctors at his bedside. May his soul rest in peace. Acknowledgement: Our family would like to thank each and every person who has expressed their love, support and generosity for Gentle; especially Que and his wife Natoya. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel during this time of bereavement. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated. May God bless you all.
