EDUCATION MINISTRY GIVES UPDATE ON EXAMINATIONS  
The Ministry of Education would like to update the General Public of the status of Examaminations post Hurrice Ivan. Common Entrance Examination Common Entrance Examination is scheduled to take place May 6, 2005. A total of 3,561 candidates are registered for the examination (Males 2,026 Females 625). Classification according to parish St. John 267 St. Mark 201 St. Patrick 403 St. Andrew 908 St. George 1422 Carriacou 117 Most examination Centres have been finalized with the exception of Vendomme, and T.A Marryshow College. The Examination Unit in the Ministry of Education is presently on target for the administration of this examination. National School Leaving Examination. The National School Leaving Examination is scheduled to take place from July 4- July 13, 2005. It will be conducted in ten (10) centres through the island. A number of centres have been merged because of the reduced entries. There are three hundred and sixty (360) candidates registered for the examination. Minimum Competency Test. Minimum Competency Testing will not be administered in Grade 2, Grade 4, and Form III for the school year 2004-2005. Due to the devastating effect of Hurricane Ivan on the education sector, ministry officials felt that the curriculum for these grades may not have been adequately covered. This examination is aimed to assess the extent to which students have acquired the competences in Mathematics and English at the target grades. The Present Stage of Examinations. The Ministry of Education has received the preliminary register from the Caribbean Examination Council with information of candidates registered to write the CSEC and CAPE Examinations in May/June 2005. Individual timetables are expected as early as April. Students attending schools will collect their timetables from their respective schools and private candidates are asked to collect their timetables form the Testing and Examination Unit in the Ministry of Education. Candidates are urged to check the information on their timetables carefully-including spelling of names, date of birth, sex, subjects, and proficiency. All discrepancies should be reported to the Principal or Local Registrar. Individual timetables for Candidates registered to write the Cambridge GCE A'Level and O'Level examinations have recently arrived. Candidates can collect their timetables at the Testing and Examination Unit in the Ministry of Education. The Ministry of Education has begun the preliminary activities for the actual writing of the 2005 examinations. The activities include: Identifying and training supervisors; sorting and packing stationery; inspecting Centres. The Examination Unit is aware of eight candidates who were registered for the CXC examinations at Centres abroad, and returned to Grenada soon after registration. The Ministry has requested of CXC that their entries be transferred to Grenada. The Ministry is also aware of a few students who have not returned and will write the examination in other CXC participating territories/ In such cases the Ministry has made arrangements for the transfer of their SBA scores where applicable. Candidates writing the 2005 examinations are reminded that Cellular Phones are not permitted into the Examination room. The Council will impose tough penalties on candidates who fail to comply. Private candidates may be required to produce a photo ID before they are admitted into the Examination room. The number of Privates Centres has been increased. Private candidates will be writing the May/June 2005 Examinations at Centres in St. George's, St. Andrew's, St. Patrick's, St. John's, and Carriacou. Persons who have lost their CXC certificates can request a replacement certificate from the Council at a cost of BDS$200.00. They may also request a Certifying Statement of Performance at a cost of BDS$20.00 for the 1st statement, and BDS$5.00 for each additional statement per sitting. This statement will be issued directly to a prospective employer or higher-level institution. Cambridge certificates cannot be replaced, however a certifying statement can be obtained at a cost of 22 Pounds. The Testing and Examination Unit in the Ministry of Education can issue a statement of GCE and CXC results at a cost of $10.00 EC payable at the Treasury or District Revenue offices.
