On the occasion of its ninth Anniversary, Grenada Education & Development Programme (GRENED) continues its series of educational and empowering Public Forums this July in the parish of St. Andrew’s. This time GRENED looks to enlighten the general public on topics relating to Global issues and movements that have a direct impact on Grenada and the Caribbean region as a whole. The main focus of the forum is to explore and discuss Grenada’s role and commitment to the United Nations’ ‘MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS (MDG)’. In the year 2000, the MDG plan was accepted by all 191 United Nations members, who pledged to work towards meeting the goals by the year 2015. The Millennium Development Goals are: Goal 1: To eradicate extreme poverty and hunger Goal 2: To achieve universal primary education Goal 3: To promote gender equality and empower women Goal 4: To reduce child mortality Goal 5: To improve maternal health Goal 6: To combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases Goal 7: To ensure environmental sustainability Goal 8: To develop a global partnership for development The forum’s feature speaker will be Grenadian born Dr. Peggy Antrobus. Dr. Antrobus is a Specialist in Global Issues, as well as an Independent Consultant and Author - her latest book is entitled ‘The Global Women’s Movement’. GRENED warmly invites all to an evening of open and explorative discussion on the MDG and Grenada’s role in the Global community. The forum will be held on THURSDAY 14TH JULY at the ST. JOSEPH’S CONVENT SCHOOL, GRENVILLE, from 5pm.
