MORE THAN A HOUSE A DAY BEING CONSTRUCTED FOR GRENADA'S...
The Emergency Housing Committee is pleased with the work done under the House Construction for persons in the Most Vulnerable group program. As of July 5, 2005, 305 houses were completed for persons in that category. This figure indicates that Housing is constructing more than a house per day, an effort worthy of commendation given the challenges associated with shortages of building materials. These houses were all donated to the beneficiaries free of cost. The construction cost of these houses is being covered by the Government of Grenada to the tune of $30,000 E.C. each. The houses are being erected throughout Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique, and are built in keeping with Grenada’s Building Code. The numbers of houses constructed in each constituency is as follow: St. David’s 76 St. George South 20 St. George South East 17 St. George North East 18 Town of St George 19 St. George North West 19 St. Andrew’s South East 28 St Andrew’s North East 18 St. Andrew’s South West 27 St. Andrew’s North West 12 St Patrick’s West 17 St. Patrick’s East 9 St. John’s 11 Carriacou and Petite Martinique 8 St Mark’s 6 The parishes of St. David’s, St. George’s, and St. Andrew’s were identified as high priority areas as they were the most severely affected by Hurricane Ivan. The number of houses constructed on a Parish basis reads: St Georges 93, St Andrews 85 St David’s 76 St Patricks 26, St. Johns 11 Carriacou and Petite Martinique 8 St. Marks 6 Source: Ministry of Housing and Social Development
