Barguna Enterprises Limited, a small agro-processing manufacturing company operating under the brand name Keno products launches new products, Coconut Rum, Pineapple Rum, Spice Rum and Rum Chocolate Cream Liqueur. The company is primarily known for the popular Pep Wine. According to company’s Chemist and General Manager, Kenneth Thomas, the company has been struggling with consistent declining sales mostly due to the down turn in the economy and worsened by the recent government’s implementation of Excise Tax and VAT. He lamented the fact that he was unable to persuade the administration to grant an exemption for Excise Tax due to the company’s small size and vulnerability. He said he has however used the crisis to revert to the drawing board to develop products that would appeal to the foreign market in order to save his company. Mr. Thomas is optimistic about the future despite the daunting challenges. He indicated that he has already undertaken plans to expand his facilities and production capacity. This will augur well for the rural village of Tivoli and the surrounding areas since any addition of jobs would be appreciated in this economically challenging times.
