ST. GEORGE NORTH EAST FOOTBALL UPDATE (13TH JUNE 2010)...
ST GEORGE'S, Grenada - It was all smiles in Vendome this evening as Vendome Marvelites celebrated qualification to the semi-finals with a comprehensive four (4) nil demolition of Hampshire United in the second game of the double header on Sunday. In the first game played at Vendome, Legacy Valley Beaulieu defied the odds to earn a one all draw with Tempe All Blacks. Brian Cato netted for Beaulieu while Dereck La Qua did likewise for Tempe. This result handed qualification to Vendome Marvelites as it meant then that only Tempe All Blacks or Brothers United could reach twelve points. Vendome put this aside as well as their protest into their game played last Sunday against the the St. George U 20. Spurred on by a large partisan crowd on the back of braces by strikers Kenrick Cambridge and Nazim Leo sent their spectators into a joyous frenzy. The only sour note for Marvelites occurred when reserve goal keeper Castle without entering the field contrived to earn himself a red card. This however did not dampen the spectators unbridled joy. At this juncture Red Out, Vendome Marvelites and Hampshire United have all qualified for the semi-finals. Tempe All Blacks and Brothers United of New Hampshire are chasing the one remaining spot. Tempe All Blacks must avoid defeat on Tuesday when they meet Brothers United at Horeb to keep their hopes of a semi-final berth alive. Brothers United need to win to settle the issue at once or avoid defeat and hope that their fellow villagers do the same against Tempe All Blacks on Saturday. By Michael Bascombe
