LETTER TO THE EDITOR - THE BLAME GAME
click
Dear editor, There is a general feeling by many objective and fair-minded people both home and abroad that the New national Party is still in charge of the country while the National Democratic Congress who is supposed to be governing is proving to be totally bankrupt of ideas and vision hence the country is placed between a rock and a green heart tree. The sad and unfortunate irony of the situation is however, that whilst the leader of the official Opposition NNP Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell and his team are constantly critical and outspoken against the harsh, vindictive, and regressive policies and decisions which the NDC administration is continuously creating, developing and implementing on the population, and at the same time offering them critically sound, constructive, and logical advice and ideas that could and should propel our country out of this social and economic tomb of doom and misery in which it is totally entrenched at this present time, we see that the government is sadly and woefully sticking to its destructive path and trying to vindicate itself by applying the “Blame Game Theory.” In other words whenever the sad results of their negative decisions are felt by the people, their line of defence and excuse is as usual “It was because of the NNP.” We must remember, however, that the only thing to stand the test of time is the truth. Was it the NNP who cold-heartedly cancelled many if not all of the social programmes that it implemented before the last general elections of July 8, 2008, such as the food baskets for the elderly and poor unfortunate mothers, free milk for babies and children under five years; free school books, uniforms, and transportation fares for the less fortunate school children of our nation; the Imani programmme that was so economically vital and psychologically crucial for the thousands of school leavers who found it difficult to find jobs? And one can go on and on and on! Who cancelled the Grenada Grand Beach/Lewis Hamilton transaction; the CCC farm roads contract which subsequently placed over four hundred workers and their families on the breadline; caused the delays into the unforeseeable future of the Grenville market and Greater Grenville Projects which should have commenced since in August of 2008; and the worst and most heartless of all - the reduction of $10.00 per day in the wages of the debushing and drain-clearing crews who, except for NDC party hawks, now receive employment on average of two fortnights per year. Fortunately for the Grenadian people, the truth shall set us free. While this could take some time during which all of us continue to suffer, justifiably unfortunate for the NDC government, their sympathizers, apologists, and propagandists, time and the truth are slowly catching up with and exposing you. Paul Gittens (Mr. Simplicity) (The information contained in the above article represents the views and opinions of the writer and not necessarily those of the Grenadian Connection staff).

We have got to move away from this "Die hard NNP, NDC, GULP...idiocracy" Let's vote people into office on the basis of how they explain to us what their approach is going to be...it's a gamble, but let's use it...they have got to have a well suited platform. The crime wave in our country has nothing to do with NDC, NNP, GULP or other political parties here in Grenada. I will continue to sound as a stuck CD or record...when we the people went to the poll or voted in the last election, how many of us had the decency to question and challenge those were seeking office? How many of us thought of focusing on the social, educational economical and political concerns or problems confronting Grenada? If our people are educated on those issues their votes would be in the right direction. We have got to help the less educated and poor folk to understand the need for change...the drink of white rum, a cow head, pig head, goat head, a chicken, a Vita malta, a few days work on the road once every 5 year period or election cycle, a few pieces of board to cover a hole in the house should never take precidence over community and national issues that the masses are likely to suffer. Those of you in America, Canada, England, Cuba...if you really care about Grenada, then you'd help your families and those you communicate with on the island to change their way of thinking and voting. We have got to move away from "What's in it for me" and begin think of "What's in it for my village, community and country." This is a challenge for all of us People!

Mr. Prime Minister, I am challenging you to explain to our people why antisocial and criminal activities do not pay, especially when you had a decisive role in the release of the Gang of 17 (men who have committed the highest level of barbaric and inhumane acts against the state), and their employment by your government at very attractive salaries? Is your (as the leader of the party and government) action(s) a deterrrent to those wishing to commit criminal acts? Mr. PM, have you and the court system subjected these men who are receiving a monthly income to pay restitution to their living victims and survivors of their victims? I am sorry, but I am not one of those Grenadians with short term memory...true believer in justice. From an observational and statistical analysis and view point, the crime rate increased immensely following the release and hiring of members of the Gang of 17. I hope your one-sided court system and police department is paying keen attention to the pre and post Gang of 17 release differences.

The government hike the VAT by 200% on goods and services. How many people took to the street in defiance of the unexpected and unreason hike? None. That tells a lot of how effective we are as a people.

No, that was not one of the worst mistake Grenadians made. They knew exactly what they're doing...some of us tend to depict a psychological issue here. The majority of us tend to suffer from the short memory syndrome. We are easily swayed, gullible and would trade our values and principles to satisfy our immediate gratifications/desires. As is seen in prior elections, give me a drink of white rum, a cow head, pig head, few chicken wings, a pound of rice here and there and you're guaranteed my vote for life...give me a yellow or green t-shirt and i'll beat the hell out of my neighbors who may be on the opposing side. Jazzy, we wanted a change in government and we got it. As much as I disagree with NDC policies, I do think the solution to the repeated political practices can only changestop when we the people begin to see ourselves as more than the government...we are responsible for ensuring that whoever is elected rule according to the people's mandate.

WHY IS IT SO HARD FOR US GRENADIANS DON'T SWOLLOW OUR PRIDE AND SAY THAT WHAT WE DID ON JULY 8 2008 WAS THE WORST MISTAKE OUR FINGERS DID IN YEARS.IT IS SO HARD AND HEARTBREAKING TO SIT BY AND SEE THE COUNTRY THAT SO MANY BEFORE US DIED BEFORE THEIR TIME TRYING TO IT A BETTER PLACE FOR US (BISHOP). ONLY TIME WILL TELL AND ONLY THE TRUTH WILL SET US FREE.
