GRENADIAN OFFICIALS PARTICIPATE IN CLIMATE CHANGE SEMIN...  
ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, November 10, 2010 - Three officials from Grenada are participating in a two-day climate change seminar in Barbados, aimed at raising awareness of the expected impact of climate change on vulnerable Caribbean islands. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Foreign Trade and Export Development, Sally Anne Bagwhan Logie; Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Physical Development and Public Utilities, Meryl St Bernard; and Chief Engineer at the National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA), Nigel Lowe are representing Grenada at the workshop which began in Bridgetown on Wednesday. Under the theme, “Climate Change in the Caribbean: Equipping Policy Makers to Combat the Threat”, the workshop is being held in collaboration with the Belize-based Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC), the British High Commission and the Australian High Commission. The target audience is senior policy makers from the Commonwealth Caribbean with keynote speakers and presenters from the UK, Australia and the Caribbean. The seminar will include a series of workshops aimed at encouraging inclusion of climate change into planning and policy implementation;increasing understanding of the CARICOM, UK, EU and Australian positions in International Climate Change negotiations and explore synergies; also at increasing awareness of new climate change finance opportunities including access to financing. The participants are also expected to be exposed to a range of climate change knowledge products and tools and viable options for reducing losses as well as good practice from the region to assist Caribbean governments to respond effectively to the threats.
