Hillsborough, Carriacou, April 26th, 2010- Seven families in Carriacou and Petite Martinique are beneficiaries of a government Soft Loan housing assistance programme. They are among 52 families nationwide that have just received loans under the programme run by the Ministry of Housing, Lands and Community Development. It is the latest housing aid to people in Carriacou and Petite Martinique, where families have also had new homes constructed by the 21-month-old government led by Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas. Senator George Prime, Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, hailed the assistance provided under the Soft Loan programme, and commended the government's commitment to fulfilling its objective of better housing for the vulnerable in society. A total of $920,310 is being spent on this first disbursement of the Housing Ministry’s Soft Loan programme. It caters to persons who experience difficulties accessing funding through traditional financial sources. By Deanna Isaac Carriacou
