GRENADA MANGO FEST 2010 TO CREATE HISTORY TODAY
Today, Grenada Mango Fest 2010 will be put to the test as it will create history. Only in its second year, “mango fest” activities will roll-out two major activities in the spice isle today in the form of mango distribution in the historic northern parish of St.Patrick starting approximately 10:00am and from 5:00pm “mango fest” will return to the western fishing town of Gouyave to partner with the Gouyave Fish Friday Festival way into the night. When Joseph “Rio” Carter, a local Poet in Grenada, wrote “Grenada Mango Fest, Back by popular request”, he apparently had a vision. The team comprising members from the implementing agency, Marketing & National Importing Board (MNIB) and its partner organization the “St.Patrick’s Carnival Development Organization” will depart MNIB retail outlet in the town of Sauteurs, St.Patrick approximately 10:00am to distribute mangoes, value-added mango products, recipes and information on Mango Fest to just over ten organizations/business in the area. This distribution will feature the 2010 St.Patrick’s Queen Carnival Contestants. St.Patrick’s representative for the National Carnival Queen Contest is also expected to make an appearance in the distribution of the “gift of love” as approximately 1000 persons in St.Patricks are estimated to be “touched”. By 5:00pm Grenada Mango Fest will return to Gouyave, the “town that never sleeps” to participate in the 5 year old Gouyave Fish Friday Festival which target both local and visitors. Mangoes will be distributed to vendors who make their livelihood from serving many delicacies made of local fish and sea food products. An event that can see well over 2000 patrons on a given Friday night is expected to position Grenada Mango Fest up another notch amongst the many festivals on the spice isle. Fish Friday patrons will also be treated to mango juice, mangoes plus have to opportunity to win prizes during “Mango Fest Quiz Time” at the event. Yesterday’s mango distribution in St.Johnn was once more another resounding success and today’s activities both in St.Patrick and St.John are expected to be no different. In the words of Joseph “Rio” Carter, “Grenada Mango Fest, Standing the Test.”
