St. George’s - The much awaited “A Night at the Opera III” will be staged this weekend with two performances at the Ballroom of the Grenada Grand Beach Hotel. On Saturday March 20, from 8:00 PM, the curtains will go up on a gala performance under the distinguished patronage of their Excellencies the Governor General and Lady Glean, and in the presence of Minister in the Ministry of Culture and the Performing Arts, Sen. the Hon. Arlie Gill. This year, the production includes arias and choruses from well known operas by Mozart, Verdi, Puccini and others. Well know Grenadian soloists such as Randall Robinson, Philomena La Qua, Trish Bethany and Chris Julien will take to the stage under the baton of Mae Daly, the well credentialed Canadian musician. A Quintet of the Canadian String Orchestra under concert master Jenifer Burford will be joined by two Grenada based violinists to accompany the artistes. The orchestra will also render overtures from the popular operas being performed. Opera Grenada was established in 2007 to reintroduce an interest in classics as the foundation for theatre in Grenada, and to help raise funds for the construction of a centre for the performing arts. Producer of A Night at the Opera III, Richard Strachan, says the production costs of the Gala Black Tie event is underwritten by corporate Grenada so that the funds raised from ticket sales will go directly towards and arts centre project. Preceding the Saturday night gala for which tickets cost $100 (inclusive of intermission refreshment) Opera Grenada will stage the show at a matinee for children and students at the same venue from 6:30 PM on Friday March 19th only. Tickets · Children $10 · Students with student ID $20 · Adults accompanying children $40 · Adults not accompanying children $60 A Night at the Opera I and II were played before sold-out audiences.
