February 2nd, 2010: Leader of the Opposition Dr. The Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell has advised the Governor General that effective February 1st, 2010, Opposition Senator, Hon. Devon Rachae, will no longer continue to serve in the Upper House of Parliament. Dr. Mitchell says that the New National Party is supporting Sen. Rachae by allowing him more time to continue as Caretaker for the Constituency of St. David’s, and to complete his studies in the shortest possible time. This decision was taken jointly by Sen. Rachae and the NNP in light of an increasingly demanding schedule as he seeks to upgrade himself. Senator Rachae who got married earlier this year is also a full time student at the St. George’s University and says his studies have recently become very demanding. He noted that apart from taking up a new employment opportunity, he intends to spend some more time working in the constituency of St. David’s. Leader of Her Majesty’s Opposition and Leader of the New National Party, Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell says he wishes to thank Sen. Rachae for the contributions he made in the Senate and pledged to support him in his decision. He said that he too will like to see Sen. Rachae complete his studies while spending more time with the people in the constituency of St. David’s. Meanwhile, Dr. Mitchell has advised the Governor General to appoint as a member of the Senate, Mr. Gregory Bowen, former Deputy Prime Minister, former Parliamentary Representative for St. George South East, and the current Chairman of the New National Party.
