ST GEORGE'S, June 3, 2010 - Hampshire United defeated Boca Strikers by two (2) goals to one (1) in a hard fought encounter at the Vendome playing field on Thursday. The first half was goal less with both goal tenders not having to extend themselves. Jarmarlie Phillip put Boca Strikers ahead early in the second half when he rounded the left back and beat shot stopper Denroy Jules with a powerful shot. Brendon Mitchell restored parity for Hampshire United when he capitalised on some indecision in the middle of Boca Strikers defence to shoot past goal keeper Garvin Douglas. Late in the encounter goal keeper Garvin Douglas spilled a high hopeful lob from Jimmy Braveboy into his own net to hand victory to Hampshire United. This victory moves Hampshire United into second position on goal difference with twelve (12) points. Red Out of New Hampshire are first and Vendome Marvelites are third also on twelve (12) points. This defeat leaves Boca Strikers rooted to the foot of the eight-team table on three points and no prospect of qualifying for the next round. On Saturday, competitive games are scheduled for all teams in the U 16 tournament.
