REPAIRS CONTINUE ON MEDICAL FACILITIES
The Ministry of Health, Social Security, the Environment and Ecclesiastical Relations continues its efforts to restore damaged and destroyed health facilities to their pre-Ivan level. In some cases, the facilities will be upgraded with better designs. Funding has been secured to rebuild and repair several community medical facilities. The roof of the Richmond Home for the Aged is now complete and the building is currently being painted. The Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) provided more than $100,000 (EC) for materials, while the Guyanese Defence Force provided the labour. In addition to having funded the re-roofing of the Richmond Home, PAHO will undertake to repair the Hospital Laundry Roof and one of the Doctors’ Residences at Princess Alice Hospital in Mirabeau, St. Andrew's. PAHO is also scheduled to repair most of the Community Health Facilities in St. George's and St. David's. Repairs of the Morne Jaloux, New Hampshire and Perdmontemps Medical Stations, at a cost of $195,000 (EC) are also under way. Currently, tender documents are being studied for the repair of the St. George's Health Centre on Melville Street. Additionally, bids for Snug Corner, Good Hope, Mt. Moritz, Calliste,Westerhall, Vincennes and La Borie Medical Stations will also be evaluated this month. Meanwhile, the Hermitage Medical Station was re-opened in December and plans are well ahead to secure funding for other Medical Facilities including Princess Alice Hospital, Mr. Carmel Medical Stations and the Carlton House Rehabilitation Centre at St. Paul's. Funds from the World Bank have already been secured to replace the roof of Princess Royal Hospital in Carriacou and the Kitchen of the General Hospital, as well as the Central Medical Stores.
