GRENADA'S CARIFTA ATHLETES TO INTESIFY PREPARATIONS
ST GEORGE'S, Grenada,(GrenadaSports) - The Grenada Athletics Association (GAA) has shortlisted 69 athletes to enter the next stage of preparation for Grenada’s participation in this year’s Junior CARIFTA Games in Tobago. Most of the athletes have been training under the supervision of their coaches but collective training begins on January 15. The sessions will be conducted by a team of coaches which include Wayne McSween, Denise Williams, Albert Joseph, Clint Williams, Rawle LaCrette, Paul Phillip, Kurland Peters, Bruce Swan and Jimmy Mathlin. The GAA said that several overseas-based athletes are among the 26 boys and 43 girls listed for possible selection for the 30-member contingent for the Games. Athletes will also participate in two weekend camps as preparations intensify for the March 25-28 Games. The 2005 Junior CARIFTA Games were originally scheduled for Grenada but was shifted to Trinidad and Tobago following the devastation of the National Stadium and most of the hotels by Hurricane Ivan last September. The GAA said that as part of the agreement for the relocation of the Games the local association was offered substantial assistance by their Trinidadian counterparts for the participation of Grenada.
