The Department of Youth Development in the Prime Minister’s Office has planned activities to commemorate Independence Day 2005.
As a means of getting young people more aware of the true meaning of Independence, a Quiz Competition and an Oildown Competition have been organised in the lead up to Independence Day (Monday 7th February, 2005).
Two youth groups from each parish will participate in the semi-final of the Quiz on a parish level on Thursday 27th January, 2005 from 3:30 pm. Persons will be quizzed on the History and Social and Current Affairs of the State.
The following is the schedule for the semi-final:

St. Andrew Grenville Secondary School
St. David Westerhall Secondary School
St. George St.George’s Anglican Senior School
St. Mark/St. John Victoria Hotel
St. Patrick St. Patrick’s Anglican School
The winner from each parish will participate in the final at the Grenville Secondary School on Friday 4th February, 2005 from 3:30 pm.
The Oildown Competition is scheduled for Saturday 5th February, 2005 on a parish level. Groups will be competing to cook the best-tasting Oildown, to be decided by judges identified by the Department of Youth Development.
