BARBADOS ROLL OVER GRENADA IN FRIENDLY
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) - Michael Forde netted two goals and propelled Barbados to a 3-0 win over Grenada in their friendly football international at the National Stadium on Sunday night. The Barbadians, preparing to host top Caribbean Football Union (CFU) teams Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Cuba in the Digicel Caribbean Cup Finals late next month, led 1-0 at half time and comfortably strode to victory over a diluted Spice Boyz unit. "I thought it was a good performance against an average team," Barbados head coach Mark Dougherty told CMC Sport after the game. "We have introduced a new system, a 4-4-2 formation and the team shape went well, we had width and we had depth and that was what I was looking for," Doherty added. With only four regular starters in a largely Under-23 line-up, Grenada struggled to match the home side and surrendered their first goal in the 41st minute when Forde headed in a Jeffery Williams cross from the right, easily beating goalkeeper Andray Baptiste. Dennis Rennie missed an excellent chance to even the score for Grenada in the first minute of the second half. He broke free and met a bouncing ball on the edge off the box but his lobbed effort - with only off-line goalkeeper Jason Boxhill to beat - went high and missed the target. Barbados widened their advantage in the 53rd minute when the Grenada defender Kerry Bristow inadvertently headed the ball into his own net as he tried to defend a left-sided corner kick from top Barbados midfielder Norman Forde. The Barbadians, who have slid in the past year from a top-100 spot in FIFA's world rankings to currently occupy 121st position, pushed the game further beyond Grenada's reach in the 58th minute when former England-based professional Gregory Goodridge unleashed a powerful left-footer from the edge of the box that Forde deflected into the goal before substitute goalkeeper Delano Charles could react. TEAMS: BARBADOS - Jason Boxhill, Sheridan Grosvenor (Elvis Defreitas-46th), John Parris, Wayne Sobers, Gregory Goodridge, Norman Forde, Jeffrey Williams (Paul Lovell-48th), Llewellyn Riley, Kirk Cox (Kent Hall-58th), Ryan Lucas, Michael Forde. GRENADA - Andray Baptiste (Delano Charles-52nd), Franklyn Baptiste, Kenny Phillip (Brendan Mitchell-65th), Robinson Morris (Marvin Frederick-46th), Kerry Bristow, Shane Rennie, Stephen Hood, Dorset Langaigne, Ian Perrotte (Richardson Ettienne-59th), Dennis Rennie, Kyle Joseph (Hanson Cuffie-73rd).
