PM MITCHELL FOR NEW YORK
NEW YORK, N.Y., Fri. Jan. 28, 2005: Grenada’s Prime Minister Keith Mitchell is slated to join Grenadians in New York next Saturday, to mark the 31st year of the Spice Island’s independence. Sources tell HBN that Mitchell will attend the Saturday February 5 awards, dinner & ball, set for Antun’s, 96-43 Springfield Blvd. in Queen’s from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. His visit comes as the island switches diplomatic alliances from Taiwan to China and as the nation struggles to rebuild some four months after Hurricane Ivan decimated about 90 percent of Grenada. The theme of this year’s celebration is, “Rebuilding With A Vision For A Better Nation.” Apart from the ball, nationals will mark the anniversary with an ecumenical service set for St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church, 331 Hawthorne St. (bet. Nostrand & New York Avenues) in Brooklyn from 3 p.m. this Sunday. Celebrations wrap up on Sunday February 13th with a cultural show at the Wingate High School in Brooklyn from 4 p.m. Grenada officially marks its independence day on Feb. 7.
