EMPIRE STATE BUILDING TOWER LIGHTS TO BE ILLUMINATED IN...
Ceremony & Cultural Festivities Free & Open to the Public New York, NY, January 28, 2005 - - In celebration of the 31st Anniversary of Grenada’s political Independence, the Empire State Building’s Tower Lights will be illuminated in the national colors – Red, Green and Gold – of Grenada. This will take place on the night of Monday, February 7th, Grenada’s Independence Day. A brief lighting ceremony, free and open to the public, will take place in the building’s lobby on February 7th at 11:00 a.m. Grenada’s Ambassador to the United Nations, H.E. Ruth Rouse, will be on hand to participate in the festivities. The Grenada Board of Tourism will also have a presence, distributing tourism brochures and showcasing beautiful video footage of the island. From 12.30 – 1:30 p.m., a folkloric cultural presentation, featuring the Grenada cultural group, Quake, U.S.A., will follow. Quake USA Cultural Organization is the Brooklyn-based embodiment of a dream started years ago by Spice Island Youthquake (SIY) in Grenada. Members of SIY migrated and formed the group out of nostalgia and in an effort to spread Caribbean Love and Culture through music, song and dance. The event comes after negotiations by Grenadian Derek Ventour, president of the Brooklyn-based Dee Vee International Productions, Inc., one of the Caribbean community’s premiere entertainment companies, and management of the Empire State Building. “I’m very delighted to make this happen again,” Ventour said. Dee Vee International Productions, Inc. was successful last year in getting management of the Empire State Building to fly, for the very first time, the national flag of Grenada for four days, commemorating the country’s 30th (Pearl) Anniversary of Independence. Grenada’s national flag was the first Caribbean island’s to be flown from the illustrious landmark in midtown Manhattan. For more information, please contact Derek Ventour at (718) 773-1780 or Melissa Lukis at RFC&P at (973) 627-8180 or lukis@rfcp.com.
