PM MITCHELL MEETS WITH MEXICAN DELEGATION
Prime Minister Keith Mitchell welcomed a delegation from the Government of Mexico to Grenada today (February 1, 2005) to discuss further ways by which Mexico can assist in the reconstruction process. The Mexican delegation comprised Ambassador-designate Elena Bueno, who is scheduled to present her credentials on February 15, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Luis Ernesto Derbez. Prime Minister Mitchell expressed appreciation, on behalf of the Government and people of Grenada, for the generous provision of 50 scholarships annually that the Mexican Government is offering Grenadian students, commencing in September. “There has been an overwhelming response to the announcement regarding the scholarships. Hundreds of young people have called to inquire, with more than 200 people sending in applications, so this has been a very positive initiative” the Prime Minister said. Minister Derbez said that Mexico remains committed to assisting Grenada for the long-term, recognising the financial difficulties that the Government faces in terms of reduced revenues and additional recovery costs.
