In addition to fishing, participants in the 36th Annual Spice Island Billfish Tournament were also involved in a fund-raising effort for the reconstruction process. The Tournament, which took place January 21 to 22, featured an Awards Ceremony at the Grenada Yacht Club, during which Minister of Tourism Senator Brenda Hood was presented with a cheque for $10,000 (EC). Minister Hood also received $2,000 (US) from the French Martinique Game Fishing Association, $5,000 (US) from the St. Lucian Game Fishing Association. In addition, some of the Tournament winners donated their prize monies to the Ivan Relief Fund. Minister Hood took the opportunity to thank the Spice Island Billfishing Tournament Committee, on behalf of the Government and people of Grenada, for organizing the tournament despite the economic constraints that Grenada is under at this time. She thanked all the participants from around the Caribbean who came together to make the tournament a reality. “It shows our Caribbean love for one another and with this Caribbean unity Grenada will once again rise up as the Nation we all know and love,” Senator Hood said.
