GRENADA RECEIVES 1,000 PALM OIL SEEDLINGS FROM NIGERIA
The Federal Republic of Nigeria has presented the Government of Grenada with 1,000 palm oil seedlings. “Let me on behalf of the Prime Minister, the people of Grenada and on my own behalf thank you for this gift of 1,000 palm oil plants from Nigeria. Please let your Governor know that we are eternally grateful for this gesture. The introduction of such a plant would certainly help in our economic recovery,” Minister of Agriculture Gregory Bowen said, during the brief presentation ceremony that took place on Sunday at the Point Salines International Airport. Minister Bowen received the plants from Dr. Wallace Williams, Head of the Nigerian four-member delegation that visited Grenada on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of Independence, on behalf of Chief Lucky Nosa Igbinedion, Governor of Edo State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Dr. Williams, who visited Grenada after Ivan and saw the devastation done by Hurricane Ivan, said he wanted to ensure Nigeria helped with the reconstruction process, particularly in the agricultural sector. The palm oil plant is versatile and is used in the production of cooking oil, wines and medicines, among other applications.
