A cheque for 8,500 pounds was presented to Prime Minister Keith Mitchell on Wednesday, March 9, by Dr. Makela Smith CEO of the Commonwealth Partnership for Technology Management (CPTM). The money is a gift from the Government of Mozambique donated through the CPTM. It is the balance from Mozambique’s solidarity fund created by the CPTM to assist victims of the devastating floods experienced by that country in 2002. Through the CPTM of which Grenada is a member the Government of Mozambique recognized Grenada’s interest and progress in technology. Realizing the negative impact Hurricane Ivan had on the country’s technology efforts the president of Mozambique saw the need to assist in this area. The money will be used to assist the “Smart School” programme which is a pilot project implemented in Grenada after Hurricane Ivan. This programme allows students, teachers and members of the business community to interact and use state-of- the-art technologies to enhance and further educational goals, through media that will enable international curricula and teaching standards to be available locally. Also to be used as a platform upon which schools, training institutions in the region and developing countries worldwide, can adopt “Best Practice” procedures and methodologies for efficient and effective deployment.
