BASSETERRE, St. Kitts: Canada’s Special Advisor for Grenada is to visit the Spice Isle in the Eastern Caribbean next week. This was disclosed to St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas by Canada’s High Commissioner to St. Kitts and Nevis and the Eastern Caribbean, Mr. Michael Welsh. “She has been appointed Special Adviser to Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. Ms. Augustine is going there to show moral support to the People of Grenada and to put a face beside the contribution that Canada is making to the reconstruction of Grenada as countries rebuild after such devastation,” High Commissioner Welsh told Prime Minister Douglas during a courtesy call this week. Announcing her appointment last November, Canada’s Prime Minister, Paul Martin said Ms. Augustine, who was born in Grenada and is an elected Member of Parliament for Etobicoke, Lakeshore, in Canada, “will bring a unique perspective to this position as a native of Grenada.” Ms. Augustine provides advice to Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs on Grenada, represents Canada at international meetings on Grenada and works with civil society. Her appointment helps to ensure Canada's commitment to Grenada. Canada has made contributions to help Grenada with economic reconstruction, agriculture and after the affects of Hurricane Ivan.
