PMMITCHELL'S COMMONWEALTH DAY MESSAGE
Today we celebrate Grenada’s membership in the Commonwealth family of nations. We celebrate our shared values, our commitment to peace, democracy and human rights and our determination to cooperate with one another in a spirit of solidarity. This year, in particular, we recognise the crucial role education plays in building strong communities, generating growth and creating opportunities for all Commonwealth people. Commonwealth partnerships contribute to a global dialogue in which citizens from every part of the Commonwealth benefit from each other’s skills and experience. As a result, member nations are able to share resources in pursuit of common fundamental values and goals. As a Small Island Developing State, Grenada continues to benefit from the Commonwealth’s commitment to give small states a voice in the international arena. Moreover, the Government and people of Grenada are most appreciative for the support and assistance the Commonwealth and its members have provided, as we seek to rebuild following the devastation caused by Hurricane Ivan on September 7, 2004. On this Commonwealth Day, we join with other member nations around the world in celebrating this global partnership and we rededicate ourselves to the association and the values and goals it represents.
