WINDIES SQUAD FOR BARBADOS TODAY  
ST. JOHN'S, Antigua, Weds. Mar. 23, 2005: Newly-appointed captain of the West Indies cricket squad and 13 other players are set to assemble in Barbados today to begin training for the Digicel 2005 Home Series, which opens in Guyana next Thursday. Head Coach Bennett King said yesterday he would continue to focus primarily on skills development and on working to "freshen the players," most of whom have just come out of an 11-week domestic competition. "There are still spots on the team to be decided," King said and added that a squad of 12 will leave for Guyana next Tuesday for the test. Working with King at the camp at Cave Hill Campus will be assistant coach, David Moore; technical consultant, Sir Garfield Sobers and physiotherapist Stephen Partridge. King said yesterday he would continue to focus primarily on skills development and on working to "freshen the players" most of whom have just come out of an 11-week domestic competition. The full squad is Chanderpaul, who has replaced Brian Lara, who declined the Board’s invitation due to the ongoing contract feud between them and six other players; Courtney Browne (vice captain), Wavell Hinds, Devon Smith, Donavon Pagon, Narsingh Deonarine, Darren Ganga, Ryan Hinds, Corey Collymore, Pedro Collins, Dwight Washington, Darren Powell, Jerome Taylor and Reon King. The six players dropped from the team because of personal endorsement contracts with Cable & Wireless are top batsman , Ramnaresh Sarwan along with Chris Gayle, Fidel Edwards, Dwayne Bravo, Dwayne Smith and Ravi Rampaul.
