GOVERNMENT WORKING TO SOLVE PROBLEMS ON MT. NESBIT ROA...
Minister of Communication, Works and Transport Hon. Clarice Modeste-Curwen, has called upon the general public to be patient and understanding, as Government seeks to solve the problems encountered on the Mt. Nesbit Road. Massive land slippage in the area, has led to the road being closed to vehicular traffic for several months now. The Minister speaking at a press conference on Tuesday held at the Melville Street Fish Market Conference Room said extensive research will be conducted in the Mt. Nesbit area to determine the cause and possible solutions to these massive landslides. In the interim period the Minister explained that the Mabouyah Rd. will continue to be used as a detour and asphalt contractors were now working on the Mabouyah Rd. to upgrade it. Minister Modeste-Curwen also said that the Ministry of Works has commenced island-wide maintenance of road surfaces in an effort to provide improved commuting for motorists and pedestrians. Several other issues were addressed including maintenance to farm roads, concrete roads, drainage and land slippage, repairs of Government buildings and quality control. Minister Modeste-Curwen also promised a reorganization of the transport system through the establishment of a Transport Board to assist in establishing a more efficient public transport system well before World Cup 2007.
