The Minister responsible for Housing, the Honorable Yolande Bain Joseph, was scheduled to head a delegation touring St. Patrick’s, St. Johns and St. Marks where she was to officially hand over the keys for 20 houses to families. The tour is part of the Ministry’s thrust to provide housing for persons in the most vulnerable groups in society. The Minister was to be accompanied by the Chairman of the Emergency Housing Committee Mr. Simeon Collins, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social Development Veda Bruno Victor, and National Housing Coordinator Ronald Straker among other officials from the Ministry of Social Development and the Housing Authority of Grenada. The Parliamentary representatives for the three constituencies mentioned, Honorable Clarice Modeste Curwen (St. Mark’s), Hon. Claris Charles (St. John’s) and Hon. Anthony Boatswain (St. Patrick’s West) were expected to join the touring part in their respective constituencies. The tour was to go from Cotton Bailey in St Johns and concludes at St. Patrick’s. This is the second tour within three days where the Housing Minister, will be presenting keys for new houses to families in the most vulnerable groups. On Tuesday she handed over the keys for 20 houses to families in the St George’s area. A total of 40 houses will be handed over this week as the Authority seeks to ensure that as many Grenadians as possible receive assistance in a timely and efficient manner. It is the aim of the Authority to hand over a minimum of 10 houses per week to persons in the most vulnerable group. To date over 50 houses have been completed and work is in progress on 152 as the Housing Authority seeks to complete the targeted 225 houses for persons in the most vulnerable groups by the end of May.
