DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CLAIMS LIFE OF ANOTHER GRENADIAN  
ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, Mon. Apr. 11, 2005: Alleged acts of domestic violence has claimed the life of a second nurse here, within a month and her husband stands accused. A rural constable attached to the St. Paul’s Police Station is assisting officers of the Criminal Investigation Department with investigations into the shooting incident in the La Borie area in St. Paul’s. His name was not released. The shooting occurred on, Saturday April 9, and according to preliminary reports, resulted in the death of Jean Sylvester a 42-year-old resident of the area, who is employed at the Richmond Hill Home for the Aged. Jude James, a 54-year-old resident of Grand Anse, St. George’s, who was also shot in the hand and has been hospitalized in a stable condition. According to reports, the three were involved in a domestic altercation. Senior Officers of the C.I.D. have indicated that a post mortem will be conducted today following which charges may be filed against her husband. In early March, a nursing assistant was strangled to death by her husband hours after her graduation exercise. Officials at the Ministry of Social Development have indicated that there has being a significant increase in domestic violence following the passage of hurricane Ivan. “We have a situation where some partners had no choice but to move in with either the boyfriend or the girlfriend and now some are realizing the come live see me is not the same as come live with me,” the official said.
