Work on the Bacolet Bridge is progressing well. The Bridge is being constructed under the Ministry of Works’ Bridges and Roads Improvement Project (BRIMP). A temporary bridge has been built alongside the existing bridge to facilitate pedestrians and motorists while construction continues. On Tuesday March 29th the existing bridge was demolished and excavation commenced. The contractor is in the process of directing the flow of the river to begin building the first apartment. In 2004 the Ministry of Works attempted reconstruction of the Bacolet Bridge, however this proved futile because of the flooding which occurred due to the rainy season. The Contractor for the project is Consolidated Contractors Incorporated while the Consultant is Dessau Soprin. The Consultant meets monthly with the Ministry of Works Engineers to discuss the Bacolet Bridge and other ongoing projects.
