GRENADIAN CRAFTSMEN SHINE IN SPICE PACKAGING COMPETITIO...  
Twenty-four persons were awarded with letters of participation at a prize giving ceremony for the National Spice Packaging Competition, on Wednesday the 6th of April 2005. The program was organized by the Grenada Board of Tourism in collaboration with Ministry of Tourism and the Grenada Bureau of Standards. The ceremony took place at the Board of Tourism’s Welcome Center at Burns Point. Among the 24 participants there were three top prize winners in the competition. Mr. James Redhead won the 1st place prize and he received $2,500, Mr. John Fitzgerald Thomas took 2nd place and he received $1,200 and Mr. Alie Baptiste won the 3rd place prize of $800. The competition officially began on the 24th of January and ended on the 28th of February. Craft producers, artists and carvers were encouraged to create a new and attractive package for Spices. The rules of the competition stated that the packages should be easy to replicate and meet basic health requirements. The program was done to improve the attractiveness of our spice product and to facilitate a more structured approach to the collaboration of the Grenada Bureau of Standards, Grenada Board of Tourism and the Ministry of Tourism in achieving quality assurance in the tourism industry.
