MARLEY'S SIS ON MEND. POPULAR LONDON DEEJAY MISS P RECO...
Radio DJ Ranking Miss P is expected to make a full recovery after suffering a potentially fatal brain haemorrhage while presenting her popular Riddim & Blues show earlier this year. BBC London staff administered immediate attention to the presenter as hundreds of listeners tuned in unaware of the drama unfolding behind the scenes. She was rushed to the Royal London Hospital where a brain haemorrhage, as a result of a burst blood vessel in the brain – a cerebral aneurysm – was diagnosed. She is now recuperating at home where she is being cared for by her children. She is predicted to make a full recovery but has asked for her privacy to be respected in order to make speedier progress. Her Saturday slot is being covered by stand-ins including Geoff Schumann and Dotun Adebayo. In a statement, Miss P thanked her many fans for their support and explained her need for privacy saying: “The doctors have advised strict rest, so I’ll be taking some well earned time out to just chill and relax until I get the nod from them that it is OK to resume working. “At the moment I am unable to communicate with any individuals, but I have received all your flowers, cards and messages of prayers and encouragement. I thank you all wholeheartedly.” The incident happened suddenly six weeks ago, shortly after the award-winning DJ had returned home from the Bob Marley 60th birthday concert held in Ethiopia. She had lobbied the BBC stoically for a live feed to be broadcast back to London for the momentous occasion. Miss P is the foremost female reggae deejay in the industry. Her 25-year broadcasting career began in 1979 with DBC, the first black-owned radio station in Europe. Later she was headhunted by Radio One where she presented Culture Rock before moving to BBC Radio London. Born Margaret Anderson, Miss P is the younger sibling of Rita Marley and manages Xodus Music Group, a production and management company who recently released Don Ricardo’s second album Introducing… In her statement, Miss P paid respect to the medical staff that provided care during her hospitalisation. “I would also like to thank the staff at the Royal London Hospital for their professional, dedicated nursing and care,” she said.
