The Department of Youth Development in the Prime Minister’s Office is coordinating a Youth Leadership Training Workshop beginning this weekend. The first session in the two-day workshop takes place this Saturday at the Canal House in Bailles Bacolet, St. David. Young persons will be trained in a number of areas including, Qualities of a Leader, Communication Skills, Group Dynamics & Facilitating Meetings, Improving Self-esteem, Decision-making Skills, Setting Goals and Substance Abuse. The second session of the workshop takes place at the same venue on Saturday April 30, 2005, following which participants will receive certificates of participation. Project coordinator in the Department of Youth Development, Mrs. Fredel Halley says she hopes participants will make full use of all that they learn in these sessions. “It is our hope that young persons will use their training to contribute positively to the development of youth groups in their communities, schools and churches,” she said. Workshops are scheduled for the other parishes, including Carriacou and Petite Martinique beginning in June. The training is being facilitated by Mr. Cecil Bartholomew, Managing Director of SMART Schools and is funded by the European Union through the Drug Control Secretariat of the Ministry of Education.
