GRENADA'S JASON ROBERTS LEADS NEW COCA-COLA PLAYERS RAN...
LONDON, England: In-form Grenada and Wigan striker Jason Roberts is being rated as the best player so far in the English Coca-Cola Championship according to the Championship Actim Index Players Ranking published on Thursday. The Grenadian international leads the overall and strikers rankings with an Index score of 9.13, while Darren Bent (Ipswich Town), Dave Kitson (Reading), Richard Cresswell (Preston) and Robert's teammate Nathan Ellington occupy the top five spots. The Championship Actim Index is the new official Coca-Cola Championship Player Ratings Index and it ranks players according to their performances, both by position and overall. The accumulated stats derived from all the actions that take place during a match, including goals, shots on target, corners, fouls, off-sides, passes, tackles, blocks and clearances. In addition a player will lose points if they receive a red or yellow card. Roberts is rated ahead of several big names which in includes former Manchester United and England forward Teddy Sheringham and Nigerian striker Ade Akinbiyi. The 27-year-old Roberts, has so far hit the back of the net 20 times from 42 games already this season which is just five goals less than his career season-best performance with Bristol Rovers in the 1999-00 season. Roberts last scored on April 9 in a 2-0 win against Cardiff and will be in action again on Saturday when Wigan in search of premiership promotion tackles last season's Division Two runners-up Queens Park Rangers at home. Jamaica and Millwall’s attacker Barry Hayles sits at number 74th with a 4.61 index score. A list of the overall top 10 players Player Team Index 1. Jason Roberts Wigan Athletic 9.13 2.
