APPRECIATION CEREMONY FOR GUYANESE SOLDIERS' POST-IVAN...  
A ceremony of recognition and appreciation will be held for the members of the Guyana Defense Force for outstanding services in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan. The ceremony will be held on today, Wednesday April 27, 2005 at Camp Saline (S.S.U. Base) in St George’s from 7.00 p.m. The ceremony will be attended by the Minister of National Security, Sen. Einstein Louison, Mr. Deodat Singh, Honorary Council for the Republic of Guyana, Cabinet Secretary Mr. Agar Alexander, Acting Commissioner of Police Mr. Winston James, Lt. Col. J B Lovell, and other specially invited guests. During the planned ceremony, remarks will be made by the National Security Minister, the Acting Commissioner of Police and the Commanding Officer of the Guyana Defense Force Lt. Col. J B Lovell. Certificates and plaques will be presented to the members of the G. D. F. who served with great distinction over the past six months. Under the command of Lt. Col Lovell the 100 member party arrived in Grenada on October 25th 2004 and has been involved in restoration work across the country. The G.D.F. has been responsible for restoration work and assistance in six sectors, security, education, health, housing, water and electricity. In the area of security a number of Police Stations including the offices at the Police Headquarters and the Central Police Station were repaired. In education, the Grand Roy Government and the Happy Hill Secondary Schools were repaired. Extensive work was also done on the Richmond Home and the laundry facilities of the General Hospital. Assistance was also given to the National Water and Sewage Authority and the Grenada Electricity Services Ltd. The members of the Guyana Defense Force carried out their duties and tasks despite the serious floods that affected their homeland. Einstein Louison will travel to Guyana on Friday morning with the Senior Officers of the G.D.F. to convey, on behalf of the Government and people of Grenada, this nation’s heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the Government and People of Guyana, for the outstanding services provided.
