POST-IVAN STRESS TEARING FAMILIES APART
By Mavis George Grenadianconnection.com Special Correspondent There are reports that some of the men in the small communities in Grenada, such as Mt. Moritz, have been suffering lingering effects from the stress caused by hurricane Ivan. It seems that every other day, one woman packs and leaves her man in this usually loving community. In trying to get to the root of this dilemma, we spoke to some in the community. One woman, who did not wish to be identified, said that her husband for some reason just cannot “stand on his feet as a man anymore.” She said, “I don’t know if it’s the Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome ‘ting everybody talking about.” She said that after hearing the announcement on the radio about helping up people who have this problem, that night she cooked a nice fish waters and bought a bottle of Clarke’s Court rum to add a little spark to the evening and some rubbing alcohol for sapping her husband’s loins. She said after dinner she and her hubby had a little sip of rum as a nightcap and went to bed, she them proceeded to sap the loins and stretch it and sap it, and stretch it but nothing happened, so she told him to stand up to see what would take place but still nothing. He just fell down again. She said that her husband told her that it was because of Ivan, but she said Ivan gone eight months now and other people get good, so she decided to leave until her husband is better. Prior to that incident, two other women in the community who were experiencing the same difficulties with their spouses, waited until they went to work then packed their bags and left for the same reason.
