The Ministry of Education has received a donation of 30 computers from the Grenada chapter of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation. The presentation was made to Permanent Secretary Mr. Michael Pierre at a short ceremony held at the Ministry of Education. Representing the Grenada chapter of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation were President Mr. Siddiqui Sylvester, Vice President Mr. Alston De Roche, and Mr. George Grant of Grant Communications. Mr. Sylvester said that the computers were sourced from the Waterloo Catholic School Board in Toronto Canada, and they were able to get them shipped to Grenada with the help of various other chapters of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation based in the United States. The Chapter president went on to say that they are delighted to be assisting with the enhancement of Education, and have already put measures in place to secure other forms of assistance. Permanent Secretary Mr. Michael Pierre indicated that the computers would be upgraded with the necessary software and distributed to schools in the coming weeks. Mr. Pierre also stated that with the recent loss of the Grenada Boys Secondary Schools Computer Laboratory by fire, many of the computers would be sent there in time for students who are scheduled to sit the Information Technology exams.
