CXC EXAMS BEGIN
The CXC Examinations CSEC and CAPE began yesterday Monday May 9, 2205 and will continue until Thursday June 16, 2005. Students in Grenada have entered for examination in 30 of the 35 different subjects offered by CXC and the CSEC level and 30 of the 43 units offered at the CAPE level. A total of 2193 candidates will be writing the 2005 May/June CXC examinations at the CSEC level, and 667 at the CAPE level. The total CSEC subject entries are 11,475 and CAPE subject entries 2,100. There are 31 registered CXC centres throughout Grenada and Carriacou however, it must be noted that there are several centres located in the same building. Private students in St. George's will take their exams at the Westerhall Secondary School; private students in St. Andrew's will be examined at the St. Andrew's Anglican Secondary School; St. Patrick's at the Mac Donald College; and St. John's at the St. Rose Modern Secondary School Candidates attending the Grenadian Christian Academy will write all papers at the Grenville Secondary School. Those attending Berean Christian Academy and The Meridian School of Grenada will use the Westerhall Secondary School as in previous years. Due to the declining entries in the Cambridge GCE O' and A' Level examinations over the years, the Ministry of Education has reduced the number of private G.C.E. Centres to three,- St. Andrew will use the St. Andrew's Secondary School, St. George's will use the Grenada Boys Secondary School, and Carriacou will use the Hillsborough Secondary School. All morning sessions begin at 9:00am and afternoon sessions at 1:00pm. Candidates are required to be at the centre no later than 30 minutes before the start of the examination. There are two more public holidays for the month of May, 16th Whit Monday and 26th Corpus Christi. Examinations are scheduled for both public holidays. Mathematics is scheduled for May 26th and there are 1218 candidates registered to write Mathematics at CSEC Level. Economics Unit 1 and Spanish Unit 2 at CAPE Level are also scheduled for Corpus Christi and 126 candidates are registered to write those subjects. This year we are experiencing a serious problem with some CAPE candidates who are also writing Mathematics and /or English A at the CSEC Level as some papers are scheduled for the same date and time. This is a serious problem as an examination which is scheduled for a particular date cannot be rescheduled. The most effective way to solve this problem in the future is for TAMCC students who have to write Mathematics and English A or any other subject at CSEC Level to do so during the January sitting of the CSEC Examination. Registration for the January CSEC examination usually begins in September. Another area of concern is that about 50 percent of the privately registered candidates have not collected their examination timetables. Private candidates are urged to collect their examination timetables at the Testing and Examination Unit, Ministry of Education. Even though you may know the date for your examination, it is important to note that your timetable contains your Registration Number which you must produce for all your papers. Having your timetable also gives you the opportunity to check the accuracy of your personal information, so that errors can be amended in time. Candidates are reminded that cellular phones should not be taken into the Examination Room. Source: Ministry of Education
