MUSICAL INVASION AND RESURRECTION: TORONTO VS. NYC IN B...
Brooklyn, NYC. May 12, 2005. Invasion - the Canadians are coming. Resurrection – two flying blasts from the recent past, Flying Turkey and Flying Cloud, will be raising their voices. Promoters promise that the rhythms will be exploding and the beats bouncing when Greenz Connection, Toronto’s hottest sound system hits the stage at The Palace Night Club in Brooklyn on Saturday, May 14, 2005. This show and dance will have two major features. On the one hand it presents Toronto’s Greenz Connection for the very first time in NYC, as they do battle with NY’s DJ Bobby Digital. And on the other, it features two great but lately unacknowledged voices of soca – Flying Turkey and Flying Cloud, alongside the blazing hot Super P. Both Flying Turkey and Flying Cloud are outstanding artists who have had their share of awards and hit songs. It was Flying Turkey who, after winning the calypso monarch competition several times over in Grenada, gave us in NYC the hit song “No Rules.” This song was the first to internationally popularize the “jab-jab” rhythm in soca. And it was Flying Cloud who gave us the award winning party tune “Raise Your Hand.” The other featured artist, Super P, Grenada’s 2003 Road March King is currently on a musical ascent, which many in NYC may not be aware of. Super P’s latest CD, 360 Degrees of Soca Fire, has been selling very well in stores here and in the Caribbean, and the artist is one of the most booked soca artist based in NYC. His songs are also getting frequent air-plays in the Caribbean region. For example, one of the songs from this CD - “Calling For Kim” - has been among the top three hit songs of the charts in the U.S. Virgin Islands. In the last three months alone Super P has had over 15 performances at various venues in the United Kingdom, Canada, New York, California, Connecticut, and the Caribbean. His most recent exploit was a BBC Radio covered tour, which featured sold out appearances in London, Manchester and Birmingham. The artist is currently preparing for Saturday’s appearance in Brooklyn, which is at the heels of a major performance to be done in St. Lucia later this month. The event is being co-sponsored by HardBeatNerws.com, Choice FM Radio 105.5, and The Hopkins Consulting Group. More information on Saturday’s show can be obtained by calling 718-753-0429 or 718-272-4169.
