GRENADIAN ARTISTS TO SHOWCASE WORKS
Several artists working in their post Ivan studio environment will soon leave their footprint on an international audience. This is an initiative of the Grenada Arts Council (GAC) a volunteer body, which has been promoting the visual arts of Grenada for more than four decades, and currently serves an estimated 200 artists. This event is set to begin August 5, 2005 at the Galerie d'art Nader in Coral Gables, Florida and will give attendees unprecedented access to some of Grenada's most gifted artists. This series of works will reflect resiliency and passion to brush and canvas, strongly influenced by the vibrancy of colour, cadence and culture of Caribbean life. This despite the setback of last September's hurricane Ivan, when most of our colleagues lost supplies and works of art, representative of a substantial portion of their livelihood. These works will serve to provide a defining snapshot of the state of art in our tri island state and to raise awareness of the plight of our visual arts community. Our immediate goal is to get our artists back on track at their craft by supplementing the lack of upfront capital with material support- canvas, paint brushes, acrylics, oils, oil pastels and watercolour paints - for disbursement to our beleaguered colleagues, at no additional cost to them. The Grenada Arts Council appreciates and acknowledges the support of this important initiative by the Grenada Hotel and Tourism Association (GHTA) and the Grenada Chamber of Industry and Commerce (GCIC).
