GRENADA REVISES DISASTER PLAN
ST. GEORGE’S Grenada: Various stakeholders from Government, NGOs the private sector and service clubs, met recently to revised their roles and responsibilities. Lessons from Ivan were discussed and included in the National Disaster Plan, previously revised in 1995 and 1985. The project has already produced a survey that made an analysis of the response and produced a Plan of Action to improve the level of preparedness in Grenada. NaDMA compiled notes of the discussion and agreements of the working groups and used them as a basis to prepare the revised 2005 version of the National Disaster Plan. The revision of the National Disaster Plan by key stakeholders is one of the first priorities regarding disaster preparedness to face the 2005 Hurricane season. Arturo Lopez, a Contingency Planning Specialist attached to NaDMA, who spearheaded the revision of the plan under the CDERA CIDA Ivan Project said they have an agreement on responsibilities for specific emergency response functions Reprinted from Caribbean Net News caribbeannetnews.com
