EDUCATION MINISTRY TO HOST SUMMER TRAINING WORKSHOP FOR...
As part of the Ministry of Education’s drive to raise standards in schools, Teachers have been requested to participate in a Summer Training Workshop geared at equipping them with the necessary tools to effectively edify our nations youth, as well as developing their understanding of national education strategies. The Ministry’s Summer Education Workshop will run from July 4th to July 15th for teachers, and July 11th to 22nd for Principals and Deputy Principals. In order to facilitate all teachers and principals, the workshops will be held at five locations in the state of Grenada, namely, Grenada SDA Comprehensive School, Westerhall Secondary School, Grenada Trade Centre, St. John’s Roman Catholic School, and St. Joseph’s Convent Grenville. A workshop at the Hillsborough Secondary School has also been scheduled to facilitate Teachers and Principals in Carriacou and Petite Martinique. A variety of topics will be covered such as Motivation, Student Welfare, Use of Aids in Teaching, Special Education, Use of Local Materials in Science, Use of Textbooks and Curriculum, Protocol, Co-Curricular Activities, Use of Technology, Student Assessment, Remedial and Enrichment Education, Measurement, Testing and Evaluation, Self Evaluation Exercises, Art and Design, Information Technology, and Guidance and Counselling. Teachers and principals will also be updated on Rehabilitation efforts with respect to their schools. Facilitators of the workshop include members of the Canadian Teacher’s Federation, Education Officials, and professionals in the respective fields. One of the highlights of this year’s workshop will be presentations and interactive programmes from Mrs. Audra Wells Mark and a team from “NEW INNOVATIONS” out of Florida. "NEW INNOVATIONS" is an educational consulting company that combines the latest in brain research with arts-integration, sensory experiences, music, movement, rhythm, innovative activities, acceleration techniques and study skills. New Innovations then ties these methods to the national and state standards. Audra Wells Mark is a former public school teacher who decided to create her own curriculum. She has expanded her program so that it now encompasses elementary school, middle school, and high school. Audra has done staff development and has been a guest speaker at the college and university levels. Mrs. Mark has also developed programs to assist teachers in passing composition writing and general knowledge examinations. This will be 3rd year that the “NEW INNOVATIONS’ team will be holding this workshop in Grenada. The previous two workshops were held at the St. George’s University. In an effort to ensure that the Summer Training Programme does not in any way take away from the much deserved vacation time due to teachers, the Ministry of Education will close school one week earlier, and teachers will not be required, as accustomed, to return to school one week before classes resume in September Source: Ministry of Education
