EDUCATION MINISTER CALLS FOR SOLIDARITY AND SUPPORT FOR...
Ministry of Education officials met Friday morning with Principal and Staff of the Grenada Boys Secondary School to give much needed emotional support in the wake of Thursday evening's fire. Throughout the morning, school staff and students arrived. As they looked at burnt down building, they held hands, praying in thanks that no one was injured, and praying for the strength and resources to build a new school out of the ashes. This is the second fire to hit the Grenada Boys Secondary School in six weeks. GBSS is one of the schools on the island that was severely damaged as a result of Hurricane Ivan on September 7, 2004. The school them suffered another blow on April 19, 2005, when it lost its Computer Laboratory, several Classrooms, Staff room, and Principals office by fire. Thursday evening’s fire destroyed many classrooms, the Science Laboratory, and the few records salvaged from the first fire. Students, Firefighters and onlookers were able to rescue some of the furniture. There are approximately 804 students presently attending GBSS, with many students in the middle of their CXC examinations. Minister of Education Hon. Claris Charles has called several meeting with all stakeholders to find temporary support and accommodation. The Education and Labour Minister has called on all Grenadians to show their solidarity and support for the students and staff of the Grenada Boys Secondary School.
