FIRE HALL IN GRENADA RECONSTRUCTED BY AIR CANADA VACATI...
ST. GEORGE’S Grenada: Air Canada Vacations, in partnership with Toronto Fire Services, last week successfully led a team of 21 volunteers on a special relief mission to aid the Grenada Fire Brigade in the reconstruction of the main Fire Hall here. The Fire Hall was devastated by Hurricane Ivan in September 2004. Estimated at a total value of over CAD$300,000, the mission included provision of labour to aid in the reconstruction, as well as the presentation of a donation (consisting of 20 sets of bunker gear and gloves, fire extinguishers, a manual set of spreader cutters, gas detector, medical supplies and substantial construction material). "This is the fourth charitable mission that we've collaborated on with Toronto Fire Services. To see the faces of the fire-fighters in these destinations when Toronto Fire Services donates their equipment and training is especially gratifying for us," said Mr. Armstrong. "This has been our largest relief effort to date, the partnership of Air Canada Vacations and Toronto Fire Services has proven itself to be an effective one. With Air Canada Vacations' help we have been able to help a number of nations with their Fire Service needs. The Grenada project has shown us that there really is no limit to what we can accomplish as a team and we are honoured to be partnered with Air Canada Vacations in support of fire safety and fire service personnel in other nations," said Chief Stewart. Spearheaded by the Toronto Fire Services with the support of Air Canada Vacations, and backed by 18 corporate sponsors and the Grenada Grand Beach Resort, the mission took place May 31-June 5, 2005. The team of volunteers consisted of a group of 15 fire-fighters, three Air Canada Vacations staff, two representatives from Cadillac Fairview and one from Central Fairbank Lumber. In addition to participating in the mission, Air Canada Vacations provided round-trip airfare and Grenada Grand Beach Resort provided accommodation and most meals for the entire delegation.
