EXCITING CARIBBEAN CUP TRIPLE-HEADER IN BROOKLYN THIS S...
Play in the 2005 Caribbean Cup soccer championships continues this weekend with an electrifying triple-header scheduled for Sunday June 19. Soccer fans can definitely look forward to action and thrills in this Father’s Day extravaganza. With three former Caribbean Cup winners set to take the field, expectations are running high that the matches will be memorable. In the first game at 2:30 p.m. Antigua/Barbuda face the local soca warriors from Trinidad & Tobago. T&T has a reorganized team and, by all accounts,is one of the teams to look out for this year as they have done a lot to prepare in the off-season. Nevertheless, Antigua/Barbuda will not be trying to make it easy for them. Trinidad last won the championship in 1996. The second match, scheduled for 4:15 p.m., will see Haiti take on St. Lucia in what should be another intriguing match-up in the Caribbean Cup. The feature game at 6:00 p.m. will find two former champions taking the field in a clash of the titans: the highly fancied Jamaicans and Barbados. The boys from Jamrock are looking to rebound from last year’s loss to Grenada in the finals and regain the cup they last won in 2003. Meanwhile, Barbados who were champions in 2002, have several players on the team who have been competing very well in the league playing for the Youth Uprising team which is so far unbeaten this year. This headlining game has all the makings of a classic and should not to be missed by true soccer aficionados. All games in the competition are played at the Jefferson High School field at Flatlands and Shepherd avenues in the Spring Creek section of Brooklyn. The cost of admission in the preliminary round is $7. So bring all the dads out for an exhilarating afternoon of entertaining soccer action.
