TODAY IS THE LONGEST DAY
TODAY, which is the beginning of summer, will be the longest day of the year. According to the website www.infoplease.com, at the time of summer solstice, the sun is directly overhead at noon at the Tropic of Cancer. "Thus the sun appears highest in the sky (about 66 degrees above the horizon at noon). That means the sun spends the most amount of time above the horizon that day. The Earth tilts on an axis as it orbits around the sun," the website said. Solstice - from the Latin for 'sun' and 'stands still' in astronomy - is either of the two points on the ecliptic that lie midway between the equinoxes (separated from them by an angular distance of 90°).
