JAPANESE GOVERNMENT FUNDS IMPROVEMENT IN SEVEN GRENADIA...  
St. George’s: After successful negotiations between the Minister for Education and the Japanese Embassy in Trinidad, a formal collective signing ceremony took place Wednesday between the Ambassador of Japan, His Excellency Shigenobu Kato, and the respective principals of seven schools, in the presence of the Minister of Education and Labour, the Honourable Clarice Charles. The seven schools, namely, Wesley College, Happy Hill Secondary School, St. David Catholic Secondary School, St. Joseph’s Convent – St. George’s, St. Rose Modern Secondary School, Mac, Donald College and St. Mary’s Junior School, are just the first group from among many other schools in Grenada which have been earmarked to receive Grant Aid from the Government of Japan, under its scheme, Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects. The total sum of US$577,365.00) will be granted by the Government of Japan to the seven listed schools, mainly for the reconstruction of classrooms and other facilities, which were severely damaged by Hurricane Ivan in September 2004. The Government of Japan is pleased to be a part of this venture in support of human security needs such as education, and applauds the effort of the various school principals in successfully meeting the needs of the pupils under their care. The Government of Japan welcomes the opportunity to engage in future human security projects, in support of the Government and people of Grenada, and with a view to developing stronger relations and understanding between the two island nations.
